Angel’s Advocate

December 5

If someone else is championing a position, you might find yourself, in the necessary course of critical thinking, taking on the opposite of their view to make sure everyone has it right.

The almighty devil’s advocate, dancing on your shoulder.

What does it mean to do the opposite—to find the clearest path?

Maybe it’s backing them up on their point of view, though that may blind them to the other possibilities.

Or maybe playing angel’s advocate is to exercise your right to not have an opinion, to use your open eyes and clear head to back up someone else’s point of view, not with words, but simply by saying, “I believe you, what now?”

Morning Reading is a daily email to help center yourself, reflect, and prepare for the day. It’s sent with love from your friend, Zach in Austin, Texas. He even drew the logo himself.
