April 26 | Getting Thrown Under the Bus
Nobody likes being under the bus. Taking—or rather, being violently handed—responsibility for something that has gone varying degrees of wrong.
(Except maybe bus mechanics. And even they would probably prefer to get there on their own terms, instead of being thrown to work.)
Being on the bus—well, that’s a different matter entirely. You’re riding down the road just waiting to be somebody else’s judgment, the righteous hand of God doing 25 miles per hour in the right hand lane, stopping every 4 blocks or so until some poor soul gets thrown under you.
You could make observations about the downsides of riding the bus, but the truth us, all of us would rather be on the bus than under it.
So wouldn’t you rather, given the option, treat your neighbor the way you’d like to be treated and throw people onto the bus?
Invite them into the process of taking responsibility for solving the problem instead of cracking them under the front bumper for causing it?
After all, there’s plenty of room on the bus. And plenty of stops to go.… Read the rest
