laying down the sword

Morning Reading for April 9

Laying down your sword is a good thing—unless, of course, you’re laying down your sword in order to pick up a bigger sword.

Or worse, you’re laying down your sword to pick up a crossbow, or a cannon, or a nine millimeter hand gun.

Even worse still is laying down your sword to pick up a pen, trading the clean world of sticks and stones for the murky, destructive land of opinion and thought.

So maybe the answer is to keep your sword in hand—or lay it down for no reason besides the peace of mind that comes from an empty palm.

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
