mapmakers

Morning Reading for April 10

They don’t get to dig up the treasure.

Don’t get to bring home the gold, the swords, the chest full of valuables at the end of the quest.

They don’t even get the accolades. The heroic welcome, the wild stories—instead, they fade into the background of someone else’s epic.

It’s a special kind of heroism, making maps. Building them detailed and accurate. Measuring things. Checking your work and questioning your assumptions and building something not just useful, but beautiful, too.

So maybe the reason the work is so difficult right now is because you’re actually the cartographer—the person outline the invisible world for someone else to conquer.

Or maybe you need to thank the person who mapped out the world you’re trying to enter yourself.

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
