resenting bananas

Morning Reading for April 23

If you were to plant a banana tree—

Not minding the technical banana details of the precise climate, soil, and weather needed for optimal banana tree growth—

And watched it grow, season in, season out, watering it, fertilizing it, singing it happy songs to keep its mood up—

You would walk out one day and see the faintest dangle of green in the branches, the very first fruit coming into existence.

Would you be surprised? One step further, would you be upset? Angry? Would you hop on the internet to express your outrage, or call up your friend to vent about the news?

Of course not. It’s a banana tree. Making bananas is what it does.

So if we are capable of recognizing the simple nature of things, and we rationally know that some people are capable hatred, of anger, of vitriol and, on occasion, real evil—

Why would we act surprised? Why would we get emotionally involved?

It’s nothing more than nature.

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
