Morning Reading for April 24
If life shows up one day telling us the nature of the way things are:
Your smartphone always demanding your attention, strangers trying to catch us up on the last 25 seasons of their lives, the pillow and the beer can and the controller all optimized perfectly to lull us away from consciousness, all simple statements of the way things are, and all trying to draw us away from doing or making anything—
Well, it’s here the eternal rebel is born. Not in the world, in the state of things, but between our ears. What Steven Pressfield calls “a private insurrection of the mind.” Not a judgment of the way things are, not raging against the machine, but an outstretched hand, saying enough for me, thank you very much.
There is the way things are and then there is the way we are. And we only get to change one of them.
Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
