finishing work

Morning Reading for August 13

Here’s a not-so-secret fact: the Muse likes seeing her work finished.

You could imagine those little moments of inspiration cracking their way into your world, the ones that spark riffs, poems, recipes, startups, all whizzing around our heads from on high, little origami paper planes, letters from the place creativity is born. Each and every one personally formed and sent just for you.

The Muse doesn’t care if it’s a bestseller. Doesn’t care if you sell out Madison Square Garden. Doesn’t care if a million people stream it or it earns you three Michelin stars.

The Muse doesn’t even care if one other person pays attention to it. But she does care that you pay attention to it—and most of all, that you do something with it. Bring her idea into some form of fruition.

This is all a little hokey and completely unprovable, but deep down, that might be why the Muse sends ideas: to experience the joy of seeing them made.

It’s only when you finish the ideas that more ideas come.

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
