the devil on your shoulder

Morning Reading for August 25

The devil on your shoulder deserves a better seat.

After all, they’ve been with you through thick and thin. Put up with all the slander, all the dirty glares, all the hateful comments.

They’ve put up with all of our attempts to get rid of them. To tell them off. Had the courage to keep talking no matter how many times we asked them to shut up. And when we do, we’re so quick to forget the times he saved us—that internal trickster, always rebelling, always running their mouth, but more there for us than anyone else we know.

Isn’t time we invited them inside? Thanked them for everything they’ve put up with and gave them a seat at the table?

No, the devil on your shoulder doesn’t get to make all the decisions. But they’re a part of you, and they get the same privilege as any part of you—a voice in the debate, the opportunity to be heard, and when it comes time to deciding, one singular vote.

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
