Here are a few things to consider for the axe hanging above your head.

• it’s a metaphor, and axes are frankly just out. Haven’t been popular since pre-French revolution, and when the French have you best to something, you know you’re behind the times. Consider a katana above your head, or a broadsword, or even a very angry rogue AI Tesla. Much more interesting.

• Consider sharpening the axe. It’s looking a little dull. If the thing is going to have your head, it might as well do a bloody good job of it.

• Axe throwing is very popular right now. Maybe talk the axe into coming down and see if it will accept a salary to be chucked at some wood by tipsy strangers?

• An Ox hanging over your head is phonetically similar and a much funnier analogy

• Everyone always talks about the axe hanging, no one ever asks about the string holding it. Maybe learn to tie a few knots and give it some support?
