Building a Straw Man

November 16

You’re going to need a lot of straw. More than you think at first, that’s for sure. Twisting is the secret bit they never tell you—strand against strand, blade against blade, each and every leaf of dried out grass wrapped around another until it just starts to take the shape of a stick.

But we’re not making straw stick-bugs. You’ll need to keep going, find some convenient clothing, something that looks like the kind of man you’re trying to straw-ify. A provocative T-Shirt, out-of-style jeans, maybe socks and sandals to really seal the deal.

After days of working, you can finally look back at your creation—a facsimile only a mother could love, only a mother could believe was real, ready for you to now ritually destroy, tearing apart the tiny shreds of straw, maybe only taking the time to shed a tear for the golem you created for the sole purpose of not-entirely proving a point?

Morning Reading is a daily email to help center yourself, reflect, and prepare for the day. It’s sent with love from your friend, Zach in Austin, Texas. He even drew the logo himself.
