city living

October 16

There are a lot of reasons to live near a city.

Here are several.

  • being alone is great and necessary, but you’re always alone with the same people. You’re never surrounded by the same strangers—every experience will be different.

  • If you feel and honor the draw to city life, it’s likely other people who are similar will do the same, like a magnet for all your interests.

  • You won’t be the first or the last to try to make it here. Find the history, or leave a better path behind.

  • There’s probably already a community of people into the thing you haven’t gotten into yet, and if there’s not, there’s probably enough people experiencing the same cultural movement as you to build a community with. Cities are a way of future proofing your interests.

  • You’re more likely to find better food.

  • It’s easier and possibly more virtuous to reject something you’ve experienced than it is to accept something you’ve never seen.

Morning Reading is a daily email to help center yourself, reflect, and prepare for the day. It’s sent with love from your friend, Zach in Austin, Texas. He even drew the logo himself.
