Conscious Selection
March 30
Natural selection vs conscious selection
We are all born into a natural state of things. The world, as it presently exists, is naturally selected. Constructed and chosen in a manner that is somewhat random relative to our current lack of involvement.
Into this natural selection we begin to assert our conscious selection—overriding the course of things as they would be otherwise, bringing our will to bear on the world.
This, to be honest, only works sometimes. It seems like the gap between our intentions and our results only ever grows wider, where we find even simple actions having unintended consequences.
This way of thinking—entering an unchosen world and gradually bringing our wills to bear on it—could be a way of viewing your life in it’s entirety. Or it could be a way of viewing each and every day.
After all, it’s not like your intentions always matter to the end result. Often they create as much randomness as the natural state of things, causing the world to continue in it’s merry way without so much as asking permission.
So today, like every day, you awoke from a great slumber, having been handed a series of responsibilities you may or may not have chosen, a world in it’s natural state.
What conscious selection will you bring to it today?
Morning Reading is a daily email to help center yourself, reflect, and prepare for the day. It’s sent with love from your friend, Zach in Austin, Texas. He even drew the logo himself.
