Credit Where Credit Is Due
September 19
In a great reduction of things, life is basically the sum of two factors: intention and unintended consequences of intention.
People set out to do one thing and then, sometimes immediately, sometimes in a long chain of events, something completely unintended happens. The discovery of plastic. The translation of hieroglyphics. The fall of Rome. All hail from the alma mater of the unintended.
If the unintended consequences of things contributes to half of what we have today—and that is probably underestimating it—then we have a very interesting problem of credit on our hands.
Because if half of life is the unintended, and we must give credit where credit is due, it means the credit for everything belongs, in part, to all of us.
Contributing to the way things are, whether we meant to or not.
