The Dark Gray

October 9

Nature loves her ragers, ignoring any sense of curfew as the wind picks a fight with the rain and goes tumbling around your yard like Cain wrestling Abel, smashing against the window, the door, the shed, the trees, knocking over shovels and tearing out perennials.

In the cool of the morning, the breeze against your cheek may seem something akin to an apology. Waves saying the friendliest of hellos, gently knocking again and again on the width of your calves may almost fool you into thinking nature regrets her actions.

But nature doesn’t apologize. She doesn’t see anything illogical in her way of being—still a little tender in anger, still a dark edge in her kindness. A silver lining on a dark cloud, a dark gray lining on a light one.

Completely and fully herself.

Morning Reading is a daily email to help center yourself, reflect, and prepare for the day. It’s sent with love from your friend, Zach in Austin, Texas. He even drew the logo himself.
