That You Don’t Quit

July 19

You’ve got more youth: not constrained by “the way we’ve always done it.” Able to fail 100 times before you’ve even half as old as your competition. Willing to solve problems with nothing more than enthusiasm.

Or if you don’t, you’ve got more experience. More knowledge of what not to try. The hard-earned shrug of bruised and scarred shoulders, sitting just below the even smile of someone who isn’t intimidated anymore.

Or if you don’t, you’ve got the simple arrogance of the novice—the complete openness of a beginner, ready now to receive only what is with no care for was or will be.

Or if you don’t, well, you’re still here. Still trying despite losing any and all of the above, still going for it without tactical advantage.

And that’s the only thing that really matters: that you stay in the game long enough for your advantage to pay off—that you join the timeless ranks of those who don’t quit.

Morning Reading is a daily email to help center yourself, reflect, and prepare for the day. It’s sent with love from your friend, Zach in Austin, Texas. He even drew the logo himself.
