Dropping a Break
April 6
This is a morbid question, but do you think the person in charge of rubber O-rings on the Challenger Shuttle Flight thought they were catching a break?
Can you imagine the colosal fuck-up to their career it would have been if supervisors had discovered the faulty math? The poor conditions? That they let happen, were directly responsible for?
But all is well that starts well, or continues well, because nobody else caught it. They got by with the skin of their teeth. And for some period of time, they probably breathed a sigh of relief.
History has many lessons, one of the big ones is this: be careful assuming too quickly what’s good and bad in the long run. Because it might be the complete opposite in the short run.
You might think you’re catching a break, when really, you’re dropping one.
