Electrified Soup

April 2

People are, for lack of a more eloquent analogy, bags of electrified soup walking around.

Here are a few notes on understanding them.

The bags of soup you meet are quite too large for their soup-britches. They refuse to settle. Chicken rice dreams of being chicken noodle. Chicken noodle dreams of being extra chunky. And extra chunky? Well, they still think they’re on their way to being gumbo.

Of course, the bags of electrified soup you meet don’t like having their soup fantasies questioned. They’ll invest a lot of energy into holding on to their dreams, keeping their inner view of self intact at all costs. They’ll glad endure death by a thousand spoonfuls or take on the countless costs of living before they’ll let go of their own internal soup self-view.

Can you really blame them? Would you rather every single bag of electrified soup you meet have an exact and precise self-view, neither taking on too much or giving up too little, but always being precisely content with exactly where they are?

Because then they’d just be bags of soup, lacking any of the electricity of the fantasy, the thing that keeps them moving.

So if you’re going to lay the soup dreams beneath your feet, tread softly, for you read on electrified soup.
