Experience Everything

January 12

Could you imagine trying to explain grass?

You could try to describe the seeds, the fertilizer, the cycles of rain and warmth and sun that go into caring for a lawn.

But that wouldn’t begin to cover it. Wouldn’t explain the way blades feel between your toes, the way the earth trampolines around your feet after it rains, the kind of looks your neighbors give when your yard is long in the tooth, or the kind of strange parental pride you feel after a mowing job well done.

And if that’s what it takes to understand grass—just grass—what else can’t really be understood just by explanation?

Joy, longing, loss, sorrow, the strange pain and happiness of leaving and coming back—if life can be understood at all, it can only be understood by experiencing it.

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.

Morning Reading is a daily email to help center yourself, reflect, and prepare for the day. It’s sent with love from your friend, Zach in Austin, Texas. He even drew the logo himself.
