Experiments in Possibility

Your life goes something like this:

There was a time when you were not, and there is now a time when you are.

This is incredibly confusing from the perspective of physics. 

If none of us can conjure up consciousness out of thin air, can for a second create something ex nihilo, then what’s to stop you—an impossibility approaching a goddamn miracle—from doing something else unexpected?
