The Eyes of the Law

September 1

The eyes of the law always seem to be turned the wrong direction—looking away just when justice is needed the most.

The hand of the law seems to be just a step behind the eyes, always closing with cumbersome difficulty, almost certainly trapping the wrong bloke and letting the right one walk away.

No one seems to ask much about the feet of the law, or the ears, the nose, much less the spleen. But for all accounts and purposes they seem to be equally inept, equally incapable, equally unable to understand or interceed with anything resembling timeliness.

Of course, the anthropomorphism of justice is just an analogy. Existing in our heads and imagination.

In other words, always available to us, summoned at an instants notice—the eyes of justice, ready to scrutinize our actions, giving context and opinion, passing judgment, always ready. Or, if needed, ready to turn a graciously blind eye.

A broken system in the world, a perfectly tuned system when applied to the self.
