even liars

Morning Reading for February 10

Even liars can be courageous.

Even cowards can be intelligent.

Even bastards can be good fathers and mothers, raising children who, despite being sleazy, still pull over to check if strangers need a hand changing their tires.

Even politicians can be truthful. Even lawyers can be loyal. Even tax accountants can, after punching out precisely at 5pm, go home to take the most tender care of house plants.

If virtue herself is unwilling to play gatekeeper—throwing wide the doors for hypocrites of every kind—then who are we to say otherwise?

Even we could be virtuous too, even if we’re not always virtuous.

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
