good for something

Morning Reading for February 12

There’s a lot of things in life you want to be good at: water skiing comes to mind. Can you imagine? Years from now, you get invited to a lake day, you casually offer to give it a go, and boom, you’re taking backflips, picking everyone else’s jaws up off your wake.

You could be really good at making muffins. Become known in your friend group as the muffin man. They might joke about it, but it’s all in good fun, because it’s surprisingly hard to insult someone when your mouth is full of delicious, tender notes of cinnamon and blueberries.

You could be good at any number of things. Cross stitching. BMX bikes. Saying the alphabet backwards. Walking dogs or building fences or fencing or reading Don Quixote impossibly fast.

But whatever you turn your limited attention to, wherever you invest your limited time, don’t put it into becoming a better liar.

It’s not a skill you really want to have.

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
