easy to understand

Morning Reading for February 18

It’s easy to understand winning the lottery.

It’s easy to understand a great profit margin. Easy to understand the value of your house going up and up. Easy to understand the raise your boss puts in front of you for a job well done.

Upton Sinclair wrote that “it is very hard for a man to understand something when his livelihood depends on him not understanding it.”

Which is, well, not a phrase that’s entirely easy to understand.

But history is full of losers who spent multiple years, multiple decades believing they were winners—because when you believe you’re winning, it’s hard to understand that you might be losing in the long run.

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
