It’s supposed to be difficult.

It’s easy to forget when the barbell is half an inch off your chest and, for the first time, it doesn’t move when you tell your arms to push it up. 

It’s the last thought on your mind when, for the first time, you hit ‘publish’ and are met with crickets—the work didn’t connect with your audience. 

It’s hard to remember when your eyes keep dancing away from the same page of the book you’ve been telling yourself you’d read for a week. 

Because if it was easy, you could just think about it. Leave it in the strict purview of your mind. Add it to the to-do list between doing the laundry and vacuuming, the kind of simple tasks you get around to when you find the time and energy.

But you haven’t been thinking about this—you’ve been dreaming of it. Kicking in the deep, dark part of your heart that still dares to imagine of a better future, one in which you are capable of being more than what you currently are. 

Yeah, it’s hard. Because it’s supposed to be.
