February 6th | Made to Feel

No one can make you feel anything,

No one can make you feel anger, or make you feel sadness, or make you feel joy or hope or happiness.

But you could still be made to feel.

Because the dirty little secret of everyone raging against the progress of technology and how AI will replace letters of encouragement on the internet is that thinking has always been a race to zero.

If you’re reading this, you live in such times that there have always been computers more capable of thinking than you. Smarter than you. Crunching every measurable input and output in progressively more efficient manners.

(that’s not even to mention all the people involved who, while not as smart as the computers, are probably quite a bit smarter than us).

But today? You’re still at the top.

Because a computer is made to think,

But you were made to feel.

Every breathe of tickling wind, every moment the joke lands perfectly, every glimpse of a beautiful piece of art—

Data to be calculated, sure.
