Foolishly Consistent

Who do you bear more allegiance to: your past self or future self?

Your past self holds the keys of integrity: the commitments, the trends, the honesty, the simple acts of trust over time that forge their way into trustworthiness. If anyone thinks of us enough for us to have some kind of reputation, well, the past self is the one who creates it.

Your future self holds all your potential—everything you could still bring into existence. A little quiet part of your soul that can only be seen in part, unknown to all, to you most of all, always ready to surprise with more capacity than we ever before dreamed.

The present self, well, they’re on the clock, always punching in to make the most of two worlds. Checking the balance sheet, watching the times, trying to make the most of both.

Do we sacrifice too much of the future to appease the past?

Or do we get too caught up in what could be, missing what actually is?

Morning Reading is a daily email to help center yourself, reflect, and prepare for the day. It’s sent with love from your friend, Zach in Austin, Texas. He even drew the logo himself.
