Getting Out of Dodge

June 14

The bags are packed, carefully checking for wallet, keys, and a phone charger before hastily throwing whatever other clothes can fit in the duffle bag. You’ll figure the rest out later.

There’s no sheriff headed your way, no swat team outside, no helicopter ominously warming up in the foreground, but you still feel the deep burn in your stomach, telling you to go East, South, West, North, anywhere but here, turn tail and get the fuck out of dodge.

But the last time you packed those suitcases was a lot more careful—planned out, strategic, gradually coming into focus over a period of time, the carefully laid plans of someone trying to break into dodge for the first time.

Or maybe you stumbled into dodge because you had to get out of somewhere else—coming from somewhere even worse. Or you fell out of the graces of a better city and found yourself kicked into dodge, fumbling your way towards a new city.

Either way, the question comes back—whether you head there slow or fast, where to now?

Morning Reading is a daily email to help center yourself, reflect, and prepare for the day. It’s sent with love from your friend, Zach in Austin, Texas. He even drew the logo himself.
