Given for Granted
December 29
All of us want to be appreciated.
To be seen, to be loved, to have the fruit of our labor named, recognized, and remembered.
It makes it easy to forget how beautiful it is to have our work taken for granted.
To have invented a thing, an idea, a piece of music, a line of prose so simple, exact, and powerful that it somehow transcends individual human achievement, moved from the realm of footnotes and citations into knowledge so important we label it common.
Could you name the inventor of the wheel? Who first found the word “sublime”? Who made the screen in your hand respond to the most delicate touches of your finger?
Is there anything better in the long run than creating something people take for granted?
Morning Reading is a daily email to help center yourself, reflect, and prepare for the day. It’s sent with love from your friend, Zach in Austin, Texas. He even drew the logo himself.
