The Interest of Time
February 27
Good morning, friend.
Time has interest.
Time can be spent, saved, borrowed, and booked.
Time can be wasted, passed, made, or killed.
Time is a thing you can be on, or a thing that you do, or a thing that you’re out of, or a thing you’re coming up on.
In the world of language, time blurs. It easily warps or bends to our every will and idiom.
We can cut things short in the interest of time, say it’s about time, or use “remember that time” as the perfect generic transition in any story.
Time itself, as far as we can tell, has failed to notice this peculiarity of language.
It has no personal interest or agenda, no commentary, no judgment.
It just is, passing the same way it has been for time knows how long…
Always giving us the present without comment.
Morning Reading is a daily email to help center yourself, reflect, and prepare for the day. It’s sent with love from your friend, Zach in Austin, Texas. He even drew the logo himself.
