July 31 | When God Closes a Door

They say when God closes a door, God opens a window. 

Maybe there’s a breeze to let in, or smoke wafting from the stove, where breakfast is being made.

Maybe God’s sending a message, some kind of special signal to a secret-society-of-window-watchers who keep their eyes peeled on everyone else’s blinds, looking for some kind of missive from the universe.

Or maybe the only observable fact is that the door is closed, and God is up to whatever shenanigans the most high prefers, and while you’ve been standing here, in front of God’s house, you haven’t tried looking around for anything else to do—or even checked if the door was locked?… Read the rest
