July 5 | The Medium Is

Some artists paint. They draw great strokes, small lines, tiny dots and great splashes of color. They can work quickly and subtly, or grandly and in great strokes.

Some artists court words, taking inspiration from common language to create fireworks in our minds and hearts. Tepid poems, epic stories, biographies reading and becoming stranger than fiction with each and every further turn of the page. 

Others bring words and melodies together, writing the songs and tunes we mutter under our breath and associate with our most poignant moments. 

And there are thousands of other mediums humans find to express what is most important.

But each of these artists is, in a sense, the same.

Getting up every day to be about their work, finding structure and inspiration…

Knowing that, at the end of the day, the only thing we have to offer the world is a day well spent.

And a day after that.

And a day after that.

Until our supply of canvases end, and we live our days no more. 

We are all artists, and our medium is days well lived.… Read the rest
