facing the possible

Morning Reading for July 2

Given an unlimited amount of time, everything that is possible will eventually happen.

That might sound like bad philosophical ramblings, because that’s almost exactly what it is: a bad ramble with a great punchline.

We spend most of our lives trying to stop the things that are possible from happening. For individual lives, that’s a great idea: you don’t have to beat cancer, depression, or bad breath forever, you’ve just got to give it the run around for the next 60 years or so.

The same thing is true for our systems. Democracy, banking, the plumbing in your house, more fragile than anyone wants to let on.

All bound to fail eventually. Just not on our watch.

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
