emotional upside

Morning Reading for July 5

Rooting for the underdog isn’t just a time-honored American tradition: it’s emotionally intelligent.

When you root for the obvious winner, you gain very little when you win. Of course you were right, you went for the obvious choice.

But when David slays Goliath, you find yourself with a massive negative event, one ten times worse than a win was better.

Root for the underdog and—well, at least you did a noble thing when they lose.

But when the underdog wins, we get to celebrate not just victory, but impossible victory, steeling within ourselves the knowledge, once again, that no matter the odds, everything is possible.

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
