the most important game

Morning Reading for July 8

For all the talk of super bowls, the world series, taking home the pennant, and cups named Stanley—

For all the big time client presentations, year end reviews, the launch days and the go-to-markets—

For all the releases, the best sellers, the mentions, the awards—

Each and every one of them was the most important game.

But now they’ve come and gone. The outcome is fixed. The lights are off, the scoreboard is reset to zero, and in the locker room, minds turn to the simple, mundane things of life, coming home to families, and whether jubilant or downcast, both exhausted, minds wandering to thoughts of dinner, showers, couches, a loved one, sitting down, scooting closer…

And as those players begin to turn in, after the pageantry of it all, after coming home and spending time being nothing more than human, a little thought stirs in the back of their head:

The knowledge that there will be another game, another go at it.

That the most important game is always the next one.

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
