Morning Reading for July 30
Medieval people thought burying people face down was a great offense. Reserved for outsiders. Possibly as a way to prevent them from crawling out of their graves, possibly just as a way to really stick it to them.
We know these facts from researchers, because all the actual medieval people are dead, buried long ago, and to be honest, none of them are presently in a position to care which direction their face is.
In the words of Flannery O’Connor, the dead don’t care much about particulars.
Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
