June 9 | What You Are About To Do

What you are about to do, do it quickly.

The words of the ultimate betrayal—spoken by Jesus, to Judas, just before the traitor went to do the deed.

Is this a moment of Machiavellian insight? Some kind of power play by an all-knowing god, allowing the events of betrayal to happen but turning the tables of the power structure, reminding Judas there’s nothing he could do that wouldn’t be forseen, calculated, strategized? 

Or are they the words of a different strategy, the chef eyeing the clock, knowing the main course must be served soon, fast, as quickly as possible, urging the necessary events into actions?

Or maybe they are words of love—the preserved voice of a brother, who even in betrayal cannot bear the thought of the one betraying having to endure it a moment more than is necessary?

Could love be so simple? Without the scheming?
