playing scales
Morning Reading for June 2
There’s only so many ways to slice 12 notes, playing hopscotch up and down the piano in various patterns, twisting your fingers over like some kind of clumsy octopus, your intention always just beyond reach.
Playing your scales is boring. Doesn’t impress anyone who doesn’t know themselves. The worst part is, playing your scales every now and then is no better than never playing them at all. You’ve got to stick to it regularly to see any kind of return on investment.
It may very well be that someone will invent something better than scales. Find a new thing to replace the small, boring, repetitive path to excellence.
But until we find that thing, well, it’s just you and your scales.
Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
