show your work

Morning Reading for June 7

In real life, we imagine the answer to the problem as the important piece, separate from whatever details went into it.

After all, the real reason none of us want to know how the sausage is made isn’t because it’s gross, it’s because it’s exhausting. Our brains are already full to overflowing of things we need to know, and frankly, making sausage doesn’t make the cut.

But in those few domains where we are professionals, we want the recipe. We want behind the scenes. We want to see any and every little blip and detail that goes into making great work.

So please, on behalf of us all, show you work.

Just don’t expect everyone to be interested in it.

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
