what is good
Morning Reading for June 10
If you know what is good, what is right, maybe not in a total across the board sense, but in a specific sense, the way that people should be living their lives in this era—
If you know it, then why is it so hard to explain? Why is it so easy to poke holes in? Why is it so quickly debated and argued? And why is it so hard to walk away from those arguments with anything resembling certainty?
You could take this as either an observation of your particular shortcoming or an observation about the difficulty of naming what is good.
But at its depth, maybe some things in life can cannot be explained and can only be done—can only be lived?
In the words of Marcus Aurelius, “waste no more time arguing what a good man is, be one.”
Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
