picking a fight with the sky

Morning Reading for June 11

You’re going to need a bigger boat. The biggest one of all. A lot of TNT, a crew, and for some inexplicable reason, rope—we don’t really know what the rope is for, but it feels very professional, like we know what this business is about.

You’re going to need a plan. Consult with scientists in an underground government bunker who can point at a 3D rendering of the sky, drawing up weaknesses and showing a risky strategy that might just work with a little luck.

You’re going to need a steel will. Iron insides. The kind of impossible bravery-in-the-face-of-fire that cements mortal men in the pages of the history books, sparking debates of the greatests-of-all-time.

Or you could avoid all that work, because the sky isn’t something you can really fight in any meaningful sense, and you’re going to lose anyway.

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
