all things counter

Morning Reading for June 18

Glory be to God for hotel lobby coffee—fumbling, cursing as a comically out of shape lid refuses to snap onto the styrofoam cup.

For the last cheese stick, buried in the back of a fridge, forgotten for a week but now found, home, in the hand of someone almost absurdly delighted .

For a little cash crumpled up, stacking dimes on top of quarters, counting, recounting, the anguish turned to joy at the foot of the parking meter that won’t take a card.

For water, clear and cool and forgotten until sleep had you spitting cotton, your mouth doing its best impression of the Sahara desert until the tsunami came.

For big things to be grateful for, and little things too. All the things we overlook until you bring them into their moment, shining light on otherwise ordinary things, places, objects, now supercharged with emotion and gratitude.

Not just things, but people, too, all in their time.

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
