the internet is forever

Morning Reading for June 22

The internet is forever—whatever you post is signed, shipped, and sealed into the court of public opinion, with no mechanism to claw it back into the form of a draft.

But for that exact same reason the internet is overwhelming. Full of other people also posting stuff, also shipping their own thoughts and ideas and work into the ether. The insane majority of which we couldn’t pay attention to even if we wanted to.

But there’s another sense in which the internet is forever—the sense in which it’s still here when your work flops. Still here when your idea fails. Still growing and changing.

Still ready for you to give it another go.

So yes, the internet is forever, but usually only when your famous, and even then only when you screw up.

For the rest of us, there’s nothing stopping us from deleting it and trying again.

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
