blue collar

Morning Reading for June 27

Buy a lunch pail. Even if you only walk it the 15 feet from your fridge to your kitchen table.

Wear a hard hat. Find work boots and gloves. Lace them on, even if they’re your indoor pair.

Think gruff thoughts to yourself. Squint your eyes and spit out of the corner of your mouth, cussing the boss who keeps you at work, day in, day out.

And when the whistle finally blows and everyone else calls it quits, stretch your shoulders, adjust your neck, pull off the gloves, and stop thinking about work.

We might not work at a factory, but if we get the luxury of choosing how we think about our art, let’s think of ourselves as blue collar.

Professional, skilled, tough, helpful, diligent, and more than anything else, not overly identifying with our jobs.

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
