Just in Time
March 11
Thick-rimmed fake glasses, feathered bangs, cargo pants with enough pockets to bring home groceries for the week. Quoting “Hot Rod”, deep cut V necks and skinny jeans, the all-consuming “hat phase” where you thought a fedora was a good idea…
We look back at our Facebook posts in loving embarrassment, the way our parents sheepishly dug out disposable camera shots of mullets and mustaches, seeking some kind of strange absolution in the form of public shaming.
Of course, we felt no shame at the time. We were simply products of when we lived. Doing what made sense then.
Now we can judge that period of time from a different vantage point—can compare it to other stretches of time, can see what was passing and what was worth keeping.
But often, we’re just comparing that time to this one. Judging what we liked then in comparison to what we liked now. In effect repeating basically the same thing.
Would you really have it any other way?
Would you really want to be anything other than in time—in this time—in this now?
Morning Reading is a daily email to help center yourself, reflect, and prepare for the day. It’s sent with love from your friend, Zach in Austin, Texas. He even drew the logo himself.
