Living in the Moment
April 27
The problem with living in the moment is figuring out which moment to live in.
Said otherwise, the phrase “live in the moment” presents an interesting idea: that we haves some measure of control over what moment we live in.
This seems like a bit of a contradiction to the impossibility of time travel, beyond the normal rate of time passing. Are we not all forced to live life in a strict linear fashion?
Or is there truth to the idea that we can find ourselves living in moments other than this one, past glories, future shame, the sins of our youth, the hope for a better future?
One could even look at people who refuse to take any responsibility for their actions, or look at someone who cannot plan more than a few minutes out, and diagnose both of them with the disease of living entirely too much in this moment and not enough in others.
So whether we have any choice in the matter or not—we can still be grateful that we have this moment.
Quiet, calm, you and this email and whatever thoughts you can’t keep at bay…
And you can live in this moment for as long as you like.
Morning Reading is a daily email to help center yourself, reflect, and prepare for the day. It’s sent with love from your friend, Zach in Austin, Texas. He even drew the logo himself.
