Love Is

February 14

Good morning, friend.

Love is the subject of most poetry (at least love of some kind) and the source material for most works of fiction.

Love is the reason anyone is willing to sit through the first drafts of most of the aforementioned poetry and fiction.

Love is the basis of most wars, at least the ones of history, at least how we tell it now.

Love is the name of a truck stop where you can purchase any array of heat-lamp warmed fried food at any hour of the night, waiting for them to call your turn in line for the shower over the intercom while you peruse a selection of cheap pocket knives.

Love is the score you have in tennis when you’re either beginning the game or are just generally speaking not very good at tennis.

Love is what you do it for.

Love is the word that comes between “I’d” and “to” when you would actually probably not love to do whatever you are committing to.

Love is what you call a woman when you’re trying to impersonate a pirate with a very bad cockney accent.

Love is the thing Tina Turner is researching in regards to whether or not it has anything to do with it.

Love is commoditized, commercialized, fucked up, dead, dying, overrated, undervalued, the basis of society, the undoing of basic morals, stupid, pointless, an evolutionary mistake, the reason Harry left Sally, the only thing worth living for, and the main reason people take to drinking.

And yet,

Love is.

Morning Reading is a daily email to help center yourself, reflect, and prepare for the day. It’s sent with love from your friend, Zach in Austin, Texas. He even drew the logo himself.
