beautiful strangers

Morning Reading for March 7

The shoes—the impossibly cool pants, tight around impossibly toned thighs, the casual flick of the high-fashion sunglasses as they set them down on the table next to a book we could never have read.

We love our friends, but maybe underestimate how much we need our not-friends, the beautiful strangers who fill the streets and halls of our life without ever having to discover how annoying, how cliche, how ordinary they can be.

And—if these people really are doing us a service—perhaps we could return the favor?

Sit a little more smugly as someone else’s beautiful stranger from time to time?

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
