the inevitable heat death of the universe

Morning Reading for March 21

One day it’s all gonna go.

All the trees, all the mountains, all the rivers, the oceans, the valleys.

All the molecules that make up the eiffel tower, all the carbon that once comprised Mozart’s sheet music, all the little bits and pieces that once held together in the form of your neighbor Sarah, waving at you from her lawn.

But you’d be amazed how easily you can be distracted by things you know will perish—find yourself drawn in to a heap of molecules in the form of a book you can’t put down, the aroma of fresh brewed coffee actually stirring something in your soul, that same neighbor, telling a joke so poorly it’s ten times funnier than it would have been otherwise.

If we’re all passengers on a voyage we didn’t choose, what’s so wrong with enjoying the ride?

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
