Monday can bring out the worst in us—throw us straight back into the drudgery of our lives, what we know and love the least, make us confront the existences we made for just how ordinary they are.

Or they can rally us. Give us a blank page, a new start, let us breath the sunshine deep in our lungs and take a crack at the to-do list.

Either way, Monday is a mirage. It’s not real. At least it’s not a real test in and of itself. Because Monday is at most one seventh of the week, and always lends itself towards Tuesday, then Wednesday, cascading onward, an entire set of days.

The real test of any system isn’t how it performs once. It’s how it handles volume—moving forward into the future until the point where it requires maintenance.

So maybe today isn’t just about enduring the return to the world, or carpe-ing your diem for all it’s worth—maybe the test of today is how well you’re set up for tomorrow? And the tomorrow after that?… Read the rest
