sacrifice

Morning Reading for May 30

Per the old stories, the gods love a sacrifice.

Some wine, some incense, a whole cow, depends on the century, apparently?

Yet we love an early morning—setting aside our love of a warm bed for something else. Or the sacrifice of a late night, knowing how painful 9am will be.

We love both the presence and absence of meals, the feasts and the fasting. Love the abstinence and the ice baths and all sorts of other manners of self-limitation.

A little limitation now, a little something extra later. Maybe not a whole cow—but something of value, set aside in hope of a better future.

What will it be today?

Thank you. Let’s have a great day.
